This is the time your friend might need you the most. As long as the baby was inside her, it was all okay but now he’s here and her life has turned upside down. She must be terrified of the thought of being a mom, especially if it is her first baby and you need to be there to calm her down and help her. Her husband may not be around all the time with his work and her family may not be available either, so you need to step up and support your dear friend. Here are some simple things you can do for her.
- Bring her some food
During pregnancy, she must have been on a strict diet and hence she may not have had the chance to eat what she likes in such a long time. Everyone who visits brings premium formula for toddler but no one really remembers to bring her something. So you need take some food that she loves; probably comfort such as pizza, mac and cheese or anything of that sort. Also, she might not be able to cook for the rest of the family and kids so don’t even bother asking if you have to bring some food. Just bring it. Since you cannot be bringing her food all the time, organize for a food delivery system. There are enough and more services that you can contact online who supply food for new moms for a specified duration. She would be pleased each time the doorbell rings since she knows she doesn’t have to cook.
- Do some chores
Your friend cannot be feeding the baby, cleaning the house and washing the dishes all at the same time. The best gift you can offer is yourself. Give your time for her; run some errands, do the grocery shopping, bring the other kids from school or soccer practice, dust the house a bit, prepare the baby formula etc. They are not that hard to do but is a great help to the new mom.
- Listen to her
Sometimes all she needs is a friend to talk to. Her husband surely doesn’t have time and she needs someone to share her feelings with. Most new moms are scared and overwhelmed so you need to be there for her. You can even share your experiences when you were a new mom but don’t make it seem like it is all very easy. This isn’t about you so don’t boast about. Also, give her advice only if she clearly asks for it. Most moms like to do it in their own way so don’t order around.
